Adams Morgan, DC

Extensive exterior masonry work, a complete gut and redo of a Master bath and a downstairs Powder room. Mason and his team were first contacted to re point all the brickwork on the back of this townhouse in the heart of the District of Columbia. We then decided to have him tear out all the old siding on the rest of the back of the home and replace with new siding.  Supporting structures had to have extensive masonry and stucco work done as well.  He and his team did such an outstanding job, were so responsive and thorough, that we had him bid to redo the Master bathroom.
Again he and his experienced, professional, and superior craft and tradesmen did an amazing job.  They gutted down to the studs, removed the bathtub, re framed, and rebuilt a stunning new walk in shower.  Mason is a "belt and braces" contractor.  He explains everything, and is so experienced and reliable that he reinforces each detail and personally sees to his crew everyday. The Master bath is gorgeous, and now he and his crew are finishing up the downstairs Powder room.  Again a great great job with a special shout out to his Master tiler. This person is gifted with a great eye and superior skills.  Both the upstairs and the downstairs bath utilized rare glass tiles and the result in both bathrooms is amazing!! Mason is always available, his crews are absolutely the best in the business, his price is very reasonable, and instead of this being a difficult and stressful process, it was  fun!

I really liked working with Mason and his teams. This is the third remodeling project we've undertaken in our small cape cod and by far the most successful. I used different contractors for the other two projects and Mason was far and above in terms of the quality of his product.
I hired Sino-American GC for our basement remodel and it was a challenging project because the ceilings are low and we had lots of duct work and plumbing that required creative solutions. Mason and his team exceeded my expectations in terms of what I thought would be possible for the amount of money we had to spend. The basement looks amazing, and he helped us maximize our ceiling height by moving a lot of the duct work and plumbing along the edges of the walls for a price that was reasonable.
Another thing that really set Sino-American apart from the other contractors I interviewed was the detail he put into his estimate. For me, this was really important because I only had a certain amount of money to spend but my wish list was big. Mason took the time on the front end to get the estimate right, and I felt confident that the project would stay within our budget. Mason put this effort in without knowing whether he would actually win the bid. It took a little extra time to get the estimate but for me it was well worth the time and once the project started, it moved along quickly. I also liked that I was able to communicate with Mason by text. I work full-time and have two small kids but I wanted to be involved in the project. Mason and I talked multiple times throughout the day either by phone or text so I could make decisions or ask questions, etc.
We have some other house projects we would like to work on in the future, and I would most definitely hire Sino-American again. This is the first time I have felt that way about a contractor. Call me picky but the details are important to me and they're important to Mason too.

Stucco New Resurfacing MD DC

Stucco on the back of a brick row home in NE DC, including chimney. Applied multiple coats of stucco plus a thin colored or dyed layer.

Sino-American General Contracting installed stucco on our house in the fall. Overall I would say it was a very positive experience and I will be calling them to bid on any future jobs I have. They did what they were contracted to do and completed the job with a high level of quality. Also, the owner, Mason, is very customer focused and has a very engaged communication style – he kept me abreast of all the details of the job and continually checked in to see if there were any problems. The job looks great now, a big improvement to the look of our house. There was a miscommunication about a metal fence that had to be removed from its foundation – the company did not think we agreed that they would haul it away, but I thought we did.  Mason handled the miscommunication in a professional manner and they ended up hauling the fence for no additional charge. Also, the project took a bit longer than originally estimated, but there was some rain that slowed work. Also, I was not in a rush, so it was not something that I brought up or was even concerned about. To sum up, a well-run company who does very good work. If you hire them, my advice would be to make sure you clarify the exact scope of work and any set timelines, if you have them, and put them in the contract (something you should do with all contractors) so that everyone is happy at the end (as I was).

Framing of unfinished basement space.
Fixing of faulty plumbing.
Soundproofing, Insulation, installation of drywall.
Wiring and installation of home theater.

I interviewed 3 general contractors, and one home theater Installation Company when I was looking to put a home theater in an unfinished portion of my basement. I ended up choosing Sino-American because they were able to offer me the most complete services. Specifically, this included the installation of the dry wall, but also the expertise with installing my home theater system and soundproofing the new home theater room. Sino-American came in around the middle in terms of cost, but estimates can be deceiving (as I've read before on forums). What made the estimate I received from Sino-American different was that it was a line item estimate, so there were no surprises. From what I have heard from friends and family, this is very unusual!
In terms of the experience with the process, it was overall, excellent. There were some delays here and there when it came to having specific parts (special electrical outlets), but I don't fault Sino American for this - these delays were on the manufacturer's side. The quality of the work that Mason and his teams did was exceptional, and this is high praise coming from a perfectionist like me. When things were not done right to make me happy, Mason made sure that it was redone until I was absolutely satisfied, at no additional cost to me.
I'm not sure if this is typical, but Mason was involved intimately with the project from start to finish. It staggers me the pure number of hours he puts into his work.
I highly recommend Sino-American. They are honest, hardworking, detail oriented, and pleasant. I will absolutely use them again in the future.

Bathroom New Remodeling Renovation MD DC

Demolished small master bathroom. Installed new drywall, tiled shower, tiled floor, exhaust fan, overhead and vanity lights, toilet, vanity, and accessories.

I got a number of competitive bids for the renovation, but what set Mason apart was his ability to suggest a few new ideas on what I wanted, plus he had a catalog of pictures of similar work that he had done. The work crews were punctual through the whole process, and Mason was in constant contact to keep me updated on what was happening.
The arrangement we worked out was that he quoted me a price for the labor and installation of all materials, but I was responsible for picking out and buying the tile, shower door and fixtures, toilet, vanity, sink, mirror, and other small items (towel rack, etc). There were three glitches during this process: (1) the drain line had to be snaked, but after checking with me on the additional cost, the crew was out to do that work within a day; (2) due to the shower entry being enlarged, the shower door I ordered ended up being too small and had to be exchanged, and (3) I had a really tough time with Home Depot in ordering the correct sink for the vanity. Exchange of the shower door turned out to be a nuisance, but the delay in the sink (it was finally delivered about a month after the original expected delivery date) caused a couple weeks worth of delays in final installation and painting. Mason adjusted the work schedules with no fuss whatsoever. My advice to those who may be planning bathroom renovations is to get the measurements of all the hardware needed and order everything VERY EARLY to give sufficient lead time for delivery before the work begins. Mason and his crews work quite efficiently, and even though the delays were no big problem for Mason, it was disappointing as a homeowner to have to wait for a couple weeks for delivery of a sink to enjoy the new bathroom.
All in all, it took just about 12 or 13 work days to complete the job, and the crews even worked weekends (after pre-arranging the times with me) to keep everything on schedule. I am very satisfied with the results, and will definitely call Mason again for future work on my house.
